You might say Tyler Kensinger was fated to join Sound Precision Entertainment.

Scott Terranova, SPE owner and CEO, came into Best Buy one day to purchase a printer. Kensinger, whose day job is an asset strategist for Best Buy stores, noticed the name “Terranova” on his ID. Coincidentally, Kensinger’s drag queen/DJ persona name is Terra Nova! He shared this with Terranova, who mentioned he owned a DJ company and was looking to hire new talent. The rest is history!

Kensinger, who grew up on the east side in Madison, Ohio, but currently resides in Cleveland, has been in the DJ business for three years and got his start when he served as the general manager of a special event venue.

As a DJ, performer and manager, Kensinger has seen all types of events.

“The best wedding advice I can give is to not take it too seriously,” he said. “Your wedding is supposed to be fun, and if that means your aunt faceplants into the cake, then so be it. That’s a pretty awesome memory!”

When he’s not serving as a lead DJ and emcee for SPE, Kensinger occasionally performs in drag.

“I’m a very casual performing drag queen as in I perform over four to six months or so just for fun not for profit,” he said. “I’ve performed at Cleveland’s Bounce Nightclub and Akron’s Interbelt Nite Club.”

Through these performances, Kensinger met a same-sex couple getting married in October. They asked him to DJ their wedding, which he will do in drag.

Kensinger also enjoys participating in live-stream video game play.

“The game I’m playing 90 percent of the time is League of Legends, arguably the most popular MOBA (Muliplayer Online Battle Arena) game to ever exist,” he said. “The dream is to compete competitively and gain e-sports exposure, which has made its way in to ESPN and is growing rapidly in popularity every day. You’ll occasionally catch me playing Wizard101, Civilization 5, Sims and, more recently, Overwatch. I stream on Twitch, which is kind of like ESPN/YouTube for gaming.”
