This originated from the Egyptian belief that this finger has a vein running directly to the heart, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brides.com\/story\/why-are-wedding-rings-worn-on-left-hand\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to brides.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. (This belief is false, by the way. All of your fingers have veins running to the heart.)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">And while a ring may seem like a big deal, especially when you&#8217;re engaged, consider that you don&#8217;t need one to get legally married.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">Many people choose not to wear engagement or weddings rings for reasons including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">Not liking jewelry<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">Working in a hazardous profession\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">Playing a sport\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">Privacy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">Health concerns\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">Other beliefs or choices<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">And instead of exchanging rings during the wedding ceremony, many couples instead choose to exchange other jewelry or tokens of love, including letters or artwork.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still like the ring idea but not that into jewelry or don&#8217;t want to spend an arm and a leg? During the wedding ceremony, some couples tie string around each other&#8217;s fingers to symbolize commitment and literally tie the knot! Others choose to get tattoos either on their ring finger or elsewhere on their body. And still others buy rings from places like Amazon or Etsy &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/style\/mila-kunis-and-ashton-kutcher-bought-their-wedding-rings-on-etsy-for-under-100\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> famously bought theirs for $90 and $100 on the online marketplace, respectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 12pt; font-family: karla;\">Bottom line: You don&#8217;t need to wear or exchange rings to get married.
