T<\/span>he national average cost of a <\/span>wedding in 2019 was $33,900, according to <\/span>The Knot 2019 Real Weddings Study<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0This is about the same as last year\u2019s national average but about $500 more than 2017\u2019s average. Five year ago, in 2014, the average was $29,858. The numbers come from a survey of more than 27,000 couples throughout the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So why the increase?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the last few years, many couples have spent more on personalized wedding details, such as cigar-rolling stations, craft margarita bars and pop culture references, according to the study. These unique details often cost more than traditional alternatives, such as a standard bar setup.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Couples are also more likely to hire a wedding planner than in the past as they need help pulling off these customized nuptials. Nearly one-third of survey respondents hired a wedding planner in 2019, compared to 29% in 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
