Whether your venue is big or small, indoor or outdoor, rustic or formal, you will most likely need to do some decorating for your vision to come alive. While some spaces offer rented centerpieces and other decorations, most of your decor will be do-it-yourself. However, you don’t have to do it alone. Here, Sound Precision Entertainment provides our top dos and don’t for decorating your Cleveland wedding venue to ensure you have the perfect day:

  • DON’T  worry about the ceiling.

If your venue has a chandelier or other ceiling decorations, consider it a bonus because your guests probably won’t be looking up. When decorating your venue, focus your efforts on what is at eye level for the maximum wow factor.

  • DO  drape the walls with fabric.

Use organza, tulle or another flowy fabric in a basic white or your wedding colors to dress up the walls. This is especially helpful if your walls have paintings or other decorations that you don’t like; fabric easily covers them up. You can also string some rope lights through the fabric for a beautiful, romantic glow. Just make sure to OK any wall decorations with the venue. Some halls do not allow any wall hangings, even with temporary fixtures. If this is the case, consider placing trellises covered in fabric, flowers and other decorations around the room to hide any flaws.

  • DON’T  go over budget.

There are plenty of places to find inexpensive decorations. Try hitting up your married friends for their old wedding decorations or perusing social media resale groups for newlyweds selling their decor. Also check out seasonal sales: Many stores mark down their inventory at the end of summer or Christmas, for example, to make way for new inventory.

  • DO  choose chair covers.

Chair covers are one of the simplest and most noticeable decor items in your reception hall. A plain white chair cover lends an elegant and classy touch to the room. For an added pop of color, add ribbons in your wedding colors.

  • DON’T  overdo the centerpieces.

Placing too many decorations on the tables can cause them to appear cluttered and make it difficult for guests to eat. Also keep in mind that guests want to be able to talk to each other during dinner. Big, bulky centerpieces prevent them from doing so and will hide many of your guests’ faces during pictures.

  • DO  splurge on lighting.

Lighting can take your venue from drab to fab very quickly. Use uplighting, which uses light-emitting diodes to create any color, around the room to highlight your space’s stunning architecture or simply dress up a neutral-colored wall. You can change these colors throughout the night and even add static, fade or strobe effects!
